The Royal
The Royal Hotel is a traditional British pub with beer garden that overlooks the sweeping bay, and provides the perfect view of the beach and cliffs.
The Royal provides a warm welcome, roaring fires in winter, and home cooked meals at lunch and dinner. It also offers a regularly changing range of local ales and beers.
The pub is dog friendly and provides water for four legged friends. It is also family friendly (before 9pm) and happy to provide highchairs and an extensive home-cooked childrens’ menu.
There are always some locally sourced specials on the menu, and artwork to purchase from local artists adorns the walls.
The Royal is the perfect escape for a well-earned pint and feed and provides an excellent stop off on the Cleveland Way. During peak times the pub doesn’t take bookings, but they may be available on request during the winter. It also has a private dining room with arguably the best view of the bay, which seats up to 18 and can be pre-booked for parties.
As Runswick is a very seasonal destination, it is worth checking the opening hours before heading to The Royal, as in winter, especially during the week, its opening hours vary.

The Royal’s menu is varied and features home cooked local specialities such as fish and chips and scampi, as well as a range of sandwiches, salads and specials which change regularly. There is also an extensive children’s menu. The portions are generous and good value.
